Note: What follows is the Introduction chapter of my book, “The Illusion Worlds.” This book is a work in a progress.
My doctrine is to think the thought that is unthinkable; to practice the deed that is not doing; to speak the speech that is inexpressible; and to be trained in the discipline which is beyond discipline. Those who understand this are near; those who are confused are far. The way is beyond words and expressions, is bound by nothing earthly. Lose sight of it to an inch or miss it for a moment, and we are away from it forever more. — Buddha
It is the opinion of the author that no subject other than the UFO phenomena and its sub-branches of investigative topics covers more fertile intellectual ground in the vast garden of human experience and knowledge. It is a small wonder thousands of individuals of all walks of life, educational and professional experience, spiritual and religious training and beliefs have all been drawn to this penultimate enigmatic puzzle. Perhaps only religious faith stands larger in its breadth of intellectual calling.
As a researcher with strong interest in both UFOs and comparative religious and spiritual beliefs I count myself among the many who cannot resist the siren call of the phenomena. Hence, this book you are now reading. How my interest in both topics came to be, for they are linked in a most unlikely fashion, is perhaps the topic of a future book. The UFO subject is one that serves as an unavoidable vortex of implications to and connections of history, science, astronomy, physics, biology, sociology and psychology. And those are just the mainstream topics it touches. On the outer edges the subject is woven within transpersonal psychology, parapsychology, paranormal, spiritual belief systems, indigenous culture mythologies, mainstream religions, entheogenesis, art, archeology, military studies, politics, philosophy, media, information technology, alternative energy, theoretical physics and occultism. There are offshoots from those branches of knowledge as well. So an individual with even a casual interest in the topic may quickly come to the conclusion that UFOs can open many doors to other interesting areas of knowledge.
Given the deep interest and variety of studies within which the subject may be approached, it is logical that a dearth of material has been created over the years since Kenneth Arnold first sighted nine objects flying over Mt. Rainier from the cockpit of his plane in June of 1947 launching the “modern” UFO era. And are we as a species any closer to an explanation of what the phenomena is or isn’t? Always a debatable contention. My answer is yes, we are slightly nearer for reasons I will attempt to go into within this book and perhaps other writings which you can find on my blog at____. But there is still a stratospheric mountain of proof and understanding that we must climb together.
Great puzzles of this magnitude often cannot be solved alone. They require a coming together of minds intent on working on various pieces so that the whole, the truth of the matter may come into realization. It of course does not help when some entities choose to withhold information, be it independent researchers, government or military. It is very likely, given the evidence amassed over the years that key holders of information are not forthcoming with what they know. I’m aware that may be a vast understatement in light of what we have witnessed from the intelligence, military and governmental bodies in the United States. The reality of the situation is that independent researchers must continue to investigate, theorize and publish knowing much of their conclusions may already be known to the American and other governments around the world who choose to cover-up, obfuscate and deny knowledge of facts concerning the UFO phenomena. True, significant progress has recently been made by the recent revelations of the Pentagon ATIP program and associated video released proving the United States government has an active ongoing interest into the study of the UFOs. Compelling videos and insider admissions are merely the tip of the iceberg of the potential magnitude of information possessed within governmental agencies.
One of the main themes of this book is to underscore the importance of practicing multiple analytical techniques in the pursuit of determining the true nature of the UFO phenomena and attempting to peer beyond the veil of the intertwined Illusion Worlds. The Illusion Worlds, as I will explain, cloud our search for the truth of the UFO phenomena. I believe researchers must do their best to pierce the veils of the Illusion Worlds if there is to be any momentous new understanding of the nature of the phenomenon.
I will outline techniques which will reduce the obstacles to truth laid upon us by The Illusion Worlds. There is no order in application of the techniques discussed in this book and there are certainly more available which may be utilized in a cross-filtering manner in order to decompose the phenomena and its multitudinous psychological, physical and historical aspects.
UFO research is changing mostly for the better. A return to a more scientific method-analytic approach is being advocated for by many researchers new to the field. This initiative may be driven by this era of emerging Big Data and advances in analytical computational techniques which are finally beginning to benefit the analysis of UFO phenomena research by applying a data science approach.
It may be as the Buddha said, that the UFO phenomena is, “the thought that is unthinkable” and “The way (to understanding it) is beyond words and expressions, is bound by nothing earthly.” If we as a curious species, “Lose sight of it to an inch or miss it for a moment, and we are away from it forever more.” Then we owe it to ourselves as seekers of purity of truth to approach our investigations with every tool at our disposal.
I believe UFO researchers of all classifications need renewed or new application of systems of thought and analysis with which to approach the phenomena. This book is my contribution and promotion of that idea.
